Summary/Abstract: The “Take a Seat!” project, launched by the Arbitration Association of Central and Eastern Europe (ArbCEE), is a pioneering initiative aimed at mapping and promoting the arbitration landscapes of 18 Central and Eastern European (CEE) jurisdictions. As the region experiences robust economic growth and increasing cross-border investment, arbitration – already the preferred mechanism for cross-border dispute resolution, is gaining ever greater prominence. The “Take a Seat!” report, coordinated by leading arbitration practitioners and supported by a network of 35 experienced country reporters, is structured around 34 key questions per jurisdiction. It offers a comprehensive, comparative analysis of the legal frameworks, procedural efficiencies, and practical advantages of each CEE jurisdiction. Through its “Take a seat!” project, ArbCEE seeks to enhance transparency, foster cross-border cooperation, and raise the international profile of CEE arbitration seats. The official launch of the “Take a Seat!” report took place during Paris Arbitration Week 2025 and featured a roundtable with experts from five CEE jurisdictions, focusing on recent institutional reforms and the annulment of arbitral awards. The discussion highlighted the region’s increasing alignment with international best practices, the adoption of modern procedural tools, and a strong pro-arbitration stance among local courts. Romania was notably spotlighted for its dynamic arbitration community, low annulment rates, and the increasing use of Romanian law and arbitrators in proceedings before major international arbitral institutions. Overall, the “Take a Seat!” project underscores the CEE’s progress in developing robust, transparent, and efficient arbitration frameworks, positioning the region as an increasingly attractive venue for international dispute resolution.
