Summary/Abstract: Current issues of the scientific expert culture, such as the excessively abstract findingscommunication, the impracticality of expert knowledge, or the production of knowledgein the service of particular interests, have led scientific expertise to become just oneof many possible narratives about the world. The article presents speculative designas a form of cognition, knowledge production, and communication. In the age of theAnthropocene, speculative design reaches not only the mind but also the imaginations, affects, and bodies of citizens. The cultural analysis of selected examples demonstratesthat speculative design – through the use of “speaking artifacts” – generates posthumanistknowledge and can effectively socialize the discourse surrounding the Anthropocene, thus influencing the collective ecological imagination.
