Summary/Abstract: This study presents a methodological framework for identifying, interpreting, and transferring culturally specific elements in subtitle translation, addressing subtitling as a complex and multidimensional translation activity. The focus lies on the semantic, cultural, and expressive characteristics of audiovisual works, offering basis for a comprehensive understanding of the linguistic, cultural, and multimodal aspects of audiovisual texts. Drawing on existing approaches and the authors' own translation and subtitling practice, the study emphasizes the importance of evaluating culturally specific elements within the holistic semiotic structure of audiovisual works, accounting for their visual, auditory, and contextual dimensions. Through an analysis of domestic subtitling practices, the study examines strategies for rendering cultural references in subtitles, providing practical insights and evaluative commentary on their application. By situating culturally specific elements within the broader context of audiovisual translation and leveraging established methodologies, the study contributes to advancing effective, culturally sensitive, and contextually nuanced subtitling practices.
