LEGAL ASPECTS OF INFORMATIZATION OF CIVIL STATUS REGISTRATION

Summary/Abstract: The article presents the legal aspects of the process of informatization of civil status registrationbegun ten years ago under the provisions of the new Civil Status Records Law. The starting pointof the considerations is to explain the concept of informatization of public administration and toindicate its main determinants and objectives. Then the implemented legal solutions aimed at theinformatization of civil status registration are discussed, as well as their practical effects in threeaspects: the electronification of registration processes, the use of electronic documents and the devel-opment of e-services. The conclusions point to the need to change the way users of the ICT systemfor handling the civil status registry are authenticated, expand the scope of e-services, and imple-ment solutions to replace paper documents with electronic ones.
