Control and supervision in public administration. Differentiation of concepts on the example of selected competences of the voivode

Summary/Abstract: Control and supervision are important categories of administrative law that are very similar and sometimes equated. In both categories, there is an element of checking and assessing the activity of a controlled or supervised entity according to a criterion specified by law. The purpose of both is to ensure the proper functioning of public administration. At the same time, these categories show fundamental differences and should not be equated. The purpose of this article is to distinguish the concepts of control and supervision as a category of administrative law. The legal-dogmatic method was used. The considerations were based primarily on selected publications in the field of administrative law. The concepts of control and supervision were analyzed, showing their essence and fundamental differences between them. These differences were then illustrated with examples of selected competences of the voivode of a controlling and supervisory nature in relation to the activities of local government and driving improvement centers. The considerations were concluded with a short summary.
