Summary/Abstract: Monitoring the financial situation of households is crucial for planning social policy. The aim of the study described in the article was to assess the material situation of farmer households as compared to non-farmer households. The authors analysed the level of disposable income, the subjective perception of one’s material situation, and the ability or not to save and to pay off loans. The study was based on data for 2018–2022 collected by Statistics Poland in the framework of a periodic survey of Polish households’ budgets. The differences in respondents’ assessments and opinions were verified by means of Pearson’s non-parametric chi-squared test and Fisher’s exact test. Despite the fact that in the years directly following Poland’s accession to the European Union, farmers experienced a significant improvement of their financial situation, their subjective rating of the financial situation between 2018 and 2022 was lower than that of non-farmer households. The owners of larger farms rated their financial situation as good or very good much more often than the owners of small farms (of the area of less than 5 hectares). Even though they took loans relatively more often than the latter, they generally did not report difficulties in paying them off. They were also more capable of saving some part of their income.
