Summary/Abstract: Taking care of a child is the responsibility of adults, especially parents. However, there are many situations when they do not provide care properly, they donot want or cannot take care of their child, which endangers the health or even life ofa small, dependent person. There is then a need to replace parents in care and educa-tional activities. This study presents the issues of foster parenthood and adoption inthe light of the teaching of the Catholic Church from a separate perspective. It is alsoan analysis of current legal regulations, which should be in line with these indicationsand considerations, and take into account the teaching of the Catholic Church in suchimportant areas in social and individual dimensions as foster care and adoption. Therefore, the study describes the essence of foster care and adoption, legal regula-tions and indications contained in selected documents of the Catholic Church regard-ing care for children deprived of the care of their natural parents. Achieving theadopted goal required the use of appropriate methods, namely the method of analyz-ing selected church documents, legal documents and literature on the subject, as wellas the method of content synthesis.
