Summary/Abstract: This material presents the history of the villages Dudes and Choplya, the Ilf District, founded close to the city of Bucharest by Bulgarian refugees during the Ottoman rule. The settlers are Bulgarians of Eastern Orthodox Christian belief and Catholics. The article traces the change in the habitation structures, which became part of the Romanian capital and the changes that took place in keeping the Bulgarian traditions, language and identity by the descendents of the Bulgarian settlers. It also studies the participation of Bulgarians from the present-day quarter of Dudes-Choplya in the organizations of the Bulgarian community in Southern Romania after the democratic changes in 1989.
