Summary/Abstract: One could say that the novels of the Canadian writer Réjean Ducharme are a sort of « talking cure », a striking example of the word that sets you free, that sets the artist free throughout literary speech transformations. The main concepts ruling Ducharme's creation are humour, spiritual and intertextual approach, playful language, dream. But the characters suffer a strong social pressure as a result of their refusal to mature and to take responsibility as they reach an adult age ;the answer to this pressure is a pathological behaviour related to forms of schizophrenia, bulimia episodes (at a symbolical level) as well as speech disorders, dissociating the word from its normal meaning (the best example being “berenician language” in the novel L’Avalée des avalés).
