Summary/Abstract: The title of the first Ducharme's novel points to its final orientation. This symbolical ”gulping” does not leave any chance for individual rescue; the initial image that appears in our mind is that of despair, of a hole, of closed depth that corresponds to the archetype of death, of its darkest zones, deprived of air and hope. The novel offers thus a “born dead” perspective, denying the very human condition. Emphasizing the female character brings about instantly her ruin: as main character, her essence consists in that she is the “doomed”, the quickest swallowed by the abyss. Other death suggestions are the direct mentioning of the void, of the heroine's destruction spirit, the mocking tone (symbolizing the death of an ideal) which overcome any other type of expression as we advance in the description of the fictional events.
