Summary/Abstract: "The virtual world is like a huge supermarket, where many of the products are free but many of the labels are misleading. It is neither better nor worse than our real world, but an extension of it. The Fathers of the Church recommend a careful guarding of the mind, so as not to entertain images and thoughts that can arouse desire and incite the imagination to construct scenarios for the acquisition of pleasure, for in this way sin is strengthened until it brings man to the stage of committing sin. There is a need for man to turn to Christ, the Way, the Truth and the Life, especially today, when the world is struggling in all kinds of sins of hatred and violence, disunity and thirst for power or revenge. Only with Christ in us and close to us will we be able to overcome the selfishness that too often dominates us and to gather into our souls His light and love, the power to forgive those who have wronged us, cultivating purity and holiness of life. With Christ as our guide, we must extend the command to love God and neighbor into the digital media, and show that whatever the products of the material world, the goal remains the same, eternity and divinization. From a Christian, moral and spiritual point of view, the true path is that of spiritual discernment. The Christian is a technophile rather than a technophobe, that is, he welcomes all things with discernment, insofar as they serve to cultivate the dignity of life and to promote high morality. It must not become the solution, and still less the only solution, but must remain only an instrument in the hand of man, used so long as it does not attack the general values of life and spirit, but enriches and defends them."
