Summary/Abstract: This study investigates the translational challenges involved in rendering the narrative voice of Markus Kohen, the main character in Enlève la nuit by Monique Proulx, into Romanian. Drawing on theoretical perspectives, notably George Steiner’s hermeneutic model of translation, the study explores how voice, rhythm, linguistic idiosyncrasy, and interlingual ambiguity shape the translator’s decisions. Through close readings of key fragments, the paper analyzes how oral registers, syntactic hesitations, and metaphorical density contribute to a deeply personal and emotionally resonant narrator. Ultimately, the study frames translation as a creative act of re-voicing, where fidelity must accommodate both the original’s linguistic singularity and its emotional resonance.
