Summary/Abstract: Traditionally, services aimed at supporting individuals of all ages in managing their career development—including choosing education, training, and occupations aligned with their aspirations, interests, qualifications, skills, and talents—have been provided by professional career counsellors. However, with the recent emergence of artificial intelligence (AI) in the domain of career guidance and the labour market, the role of human counsellors is undergoing a significant transformation. This raises the question of whether the role of career professionals will be further enhanced through collaboration with new technologies, or whether they will be gradually replaced by so-called career robo-advisors. This paper explores the implications of artificial intelligence for career development, examines the advantages and risks associated with the use of AI in career guidance, and analyses the potential for collaboration between human counsellors and AI-based technologies to deliver more effective support to clients.
