Summary/Abstract: The topic of this paper is how current trends of developing digitization in manufacture, services and consumption, referred to as Industry 4.0 (Průmysl 4.0), influence teaching “classic engineering technologies “. These technologies, mostly the engineering ones, are aimed at procession of materials mainly by changing the shape and properties of materials. These are the main focus of the subject called “materials and technology” which is a traditional part of preparing teachers of technical education. Industry 4.0 (Průmysl 4.0) presents important external conditions of such teaching, these problems are the essential contents of this paper. Furthermore, broader context of teaching will be mentioned in this respect, especially providing information or consulting during the career decision process as well as to which extent knowledge can be used in practice.
