Summary/Abstract: In Turkey, femicides are one of the most severe consequences of gender inequality. It examines the role of spouses in femicides in particular, and addresses the causes of the murders, common profiles of the perpetrators, and deficiencies in the judicial process. Femicides are generally committed for reasons such as jealousy, separation process, and honor, and the majority of the perpetrators are spouses or ex-spouses. This situation shows that women are threatened by the men closest to them and that violence is a deep-rooted problem within the home. The deficiencies in the legal processes and impunity policies regarding femicides in Turkey stand out as important factors in the increase of these crimes. Practices such as unjust provocation and good conduct reductions in judicial decisions cause perpetrators to receive lighter sentences and reduce deterrence. On the other hand, existing protective measures are not always effective enough, and women subjected to violence are not adequately protected by law enforcement. Strengthening social awareness and mechanisms to combat violence are of vital importance in protecting women's right to life.
