Summary/Abstract: In this article, the author presents the results of scientific research related to the conducted diagnosis of the social system of the Polish Police with regard to the need to develop the competence of its employees. A diagnostic method based on Rensis Likert’s concept of ‘organisational health’ was used to conduct the research. The starting point of this method is a detailed analysis of the organisation in terms of: decision-making processes, the nature of supervisor-subordinate interaction, communication processes within the organisation, ways of motivating people to work, ways and nature of organisational control, and ways of establishing organisational goals.
