Summary/Abstract: This study investigates Japan’s expansionist narratives within contemporarymedia, emphasizing how these narratives weave through the nation’s cultural, economic,and military domains. It explores the concept of “Nihonjinron” to understand Japan’sunique identity and its strategic use of cultural diplomacy, particularly through the“Cool Japan” initiative. Despite facing challenges, these efforts underline Japan’sshift from traditional imperialism to a modern approach that prioritizes soft powerto influence global cultural trends. Utilizing Critical Discourse Analysis, this articlesheds light on the role of media in shaping and projecting Japan’s national identity and international stance, revealing the intricate balance between maintaining culturaluniqueness and exerting global influence.
