Summary/Abstract: The goal is to investigate the specifics of the information and propaganda activities of the Soviet special services in the ontext of the preparation, implementation and failure of the August 1991 putsch; analyze changes in the rhetoric of state security representatives at this time; single out the role of the KGB in the formation of the information agenda of the State Committee on the State of Emergency; show the main information messages of the Union and Republican State Security Committees in the last months of their existence.
