Summary/Abstract: The early piano work of N. Stoykov, comprising several small cyclical works (Variations, two suites) and two large compositions (Sonatina and Fragments), written in the late 1960s and early 1970s, demonstrates a process of development of the composer's piano thinking similar to the process of assimilation of the European cultural tradition, characteristic of our national piano school. We are talking about the gradual but relatively rapid progress from the unpretentious variations on the folk song through the modifications of the suite forms to the complex structure and dramaturgy of the sonata cycle.
