Summary/Abstract: One of the most remarkable phenomena in the musical creation and performance of Western Europe in the era of the High Renaissance and the early Baroque was the flowering of Italian organ-keyboard art. The rapid development of the Italian organ-keyboard school in the 16th and 17th centuries was prepared by the centuries-old history of the European organ-keyboard tradition, which is, albeit only symbolically, a distant heir to one of the oldest musical arts - the art intended for the hydraulic organ in ancient Greece and Rome.
