Summary/Abstract: The present paper proposes a reflection concerning the role of the Bible readings in the spiritual life of the Orthodox Christians, monks and laity, supported by several writings on Orthodox theology and spirituality by the Archimandrite Father Placide Deseille. We will try to show that in the Orthodoxy the Great Spiritual Fathers insist, in the tradition of the Church Fathers and in all the cultures (our paper will refer to the French culture), on the spiritual importance of reading the Scripture as a form ofprayer integrated in the individual prayer programme of the monks and the faithful. We will try to see whether the confessional affiliation of the French-language biblical translations has a certain importance regarding the practice of these readings and which biblical books are privileged.
