ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITES OF THE MUNICIPALITY MRKONJIĆ GRAD

Summary/Abstract: In the period 2008-09 the team of the Institute for Protection of Cultural, Historical and Natural Heritage worked on the project Valorization of Mrkonjić Grad. Archaeologists of the Institute, in addition to existing sites described in the specified literature, recorded some twenty new sites. This paper presents only an overview of archaeological sites, while a study titled Valorization of cultural, historical and natural heritage of Mrkonjić Grad contains all the elements needed for a complete picture of the past in this area. The existence of a large number of sites in the neighboring municipality of Šipovo and a significant number of sites in the municipality of Mrkonjić Grad, tells us that these two municipalities in the past had a more significant role than previously assumed, and that this area should be seen as one.
