Summary/Abstract: The theme of this paper is related to the analysis of the legal basis for the dissolution of Yugoslavia, which occurred in the early 1990s. For this purpose, her latest Constitution of 1974 will be analyzed, which, according to many authors, contains elements of the Confederate system of government that served to break the state of Yugoslavia into its constituent parts. In order to properly understand the legal nature of the confederation, it must be clarified what, in fact, the confederation represents in a legal-theoretical sense, that is, its relation to other forms of government. After that, it is necessary to analyze whether Yugoslavia in its constitution had elements of a confederation or whether it was a federation by state system, which was argued de facto. Finally, with all this in mind, some conclusions will be drawn when analyzing this issue.
