Summary/Abstract: The article presents the origin and development of the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP), which was first formulated in the EEC Treaty of Rome. It was initially associated with the Common Agricultural Policy, but subseaquently acquired its own form. The aim of the policy is to ensure the sustainability of EU fisheries in environmental, economic and social terms.
