Summary/Abstract: In the present article deals with the origin and development of the competence of the European Union in the field of immigration, regulation of migration processes before and after the signing of the Maastricht Treaty, the establishment of the area of freedom , security and justice (AFSJ) , and recent measures taken by the Lisbon Treaty .
