Summary/Abstract: During the first three years of the Defensive-patriotic war, members of the VRS successfully defended their positions in the Krivaja River valley from attacks by Muslim forces. Due to this situation, Vozuća became a symbol of the defense of the Republic of Srpska. However, with the strengthening of Muslim units and the onset of NATO bombing of VRS positions, the defenders of Vozuća faced an extremely difficult situation. In a major offensive by the so-called ARBiH during the autumn of 1995, Vozuća was captured, and the Serbian population fled the Krivaja River valley. During this period, a large number of Serbian prisoners were brutally executed. Significant in this were the volunteers from Islamic countries who joined the ARBiH and operated within the „El Mujahideen” unit. The political leadership of the so-called RBiH, led by Alija Izetbegović, aimed to resettle Muslim refugees from Srebrenica and Žepa in the Krivaja valley. To achieve this, ethnic cleansing of Serbs in the area was necessary. This was accomplished, as there are now virtually no Serbs left in the Krivaja valley. During the Muslim attack on Vozuća and its surroundings, Serbian property was looted and destroyed. Orthodox churches and cemeteries were also devastated. The attackers intent was evidently to erase any trace of Serbian presence in the area. Nevertheless, the Serbs from the Krivaja valley have managed to develop a culture of memory regarding the events of autumn 1995 and the three-and-a-half-year heroic defense of the Krivaja valley.
