Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is to highlight the acquisition and storage of incunabula by Warsaw monasteries in the 18th century and to show how this contributed to the survival of 15th-century volumes. The six early printed books that are the subject of this article were imported from abroad in the 18th century by Józef Andrzej Załuski, and then found their way to the libraries of the capital’s Missionary and Piarist fathers. The books in question are most likely duplicates from the Załuski Library, which ended up in monastery libraries through donation, sale or exchange. In the text I will explain why these books did not share the fate of the Warsaw public collections burned by the Germans in 1944, I will also emphasize the need for provenance research in church institutions. The analysis of individual features (ownership marks, traces of reading), especially in the case of Warsaw collections, can contribute not only to the reconstruction of historical collections, but also to the development of research on the circulation of books in the capital in the modern era.
