Summary/Abstract: In this paper, the impact of the democratisation of space on space security is investigated using the example of the war in Ukraine, with particular attention to the transatlantic community’s security concerns. It is argued that the growing reliance on space systems for security-related purposes by an increasing number of international actors has significant potential to impact the dynamics of international relations, particularly in a regional dimension. This process naturally accelerates the development of counterspace measures designed to negate spacederived, security-related capabilities. Consequently, increasing the resilience of current and future space systems – including commercial ones – is crucial if Western nations are to maintain their edge in space applications.
