Summary/Abstract: More or less since the Enlightenment the lore of music has changed its fundamental principles to some extent, and has abandoned the age-old tradition of investigating the primaries of the musical phenomenon from a philosophical point of view, in close relation to numbers, order, and proportionality – an approach adopted and established by the Pythagorean school. Here we’ll try to find a way of re-introducing this ancient knowledge to professional musical training, adapting it to contemporary circumstances. This may be achieved most effectively from the standpoint of reflections about musical tuning systems, which have preserved the mathematical nature of ancient musical study.
