Summary/Abstract: The starting point of our cogitations is that the topic of musical tuning systems ought to have much greater significance in musictheoretical education. This is warranted not only by the importance of the subject within music theory, but also by the immediate relation between that subject and the ancient Pythagorean tradition, which has very infelicitously, in our opinion, been left outside the scope of contemporary music educators. We’ll try to show how the knowledge of tuning systems, and respectively of numerical ratios of musical pitches, naturally covers a great segment of the spectrum of musictheoretical academic studies.
