Summary/Abstract: In Der Kontrabaß by Patrick Süskind the story of a musician is told who reflects on stages of his life immediately before a concert performance. It is astonishing how much life and music coincide in his case. In the course of the monologue, he confesses that he has fallen in love with the mezzo-soprano Sarah. He constructs scenes with Sarah, creates moments of happiness that do not correspond to reality. For the protagonist, imaginary love is the triumph over his limited existence. The imaginative debauchery that moves him is exceedingly present. His ecstatic mind games possess an astonishing presentness.
