FAKİR BAYKURT’UN DUİSBURG ÜÇLEMESİ’NDE ALMANYA’DAKİ GÖÇMEN TÜRKLERİN KARŞILAŞTIĞI SORUNLAR
MIGRANT TURKS IN GERMANY IN FAKİR BAYKURT’S DUISBURG TRILOGY

Summary/Abstract: Fakir Baykurt was born in Akçaköy of Burdur. After his education, he started his profession as a village teacher. He was appointed as a primary school inspector after the 1960 coup. He was specialized in lesson material development between the years 1962-1963 in the USA, in Indiana University. He held offices as a National Folklore Institute Specialist, in METU Public Relations and as a Publishing Manager. In 1978, he worked as a consultant at the Ministry of Culture. In 1979, he was sent to Duisburg, Germany by the government of Turkish Republic. There, he worked as an educational specialist in the“ Promotion of Foreign Children and Youngsters Institute and Regional Labor Institute”.Baykurt spent twenty years of his fifty-year writing career in Germany. Thanks to this experience, he was among the authors who knew social and cultural differences between Turkey and Germany best. Baykurt who also continued writing while he was working as a teacher, published 13 Novels, 15 Stories and 2 Poetry Books. He wrote books for children, reviews, newspaper articles. The author, who was 50 when he arrived at the city of Duisburg, spent almost one-third of his life there. In Fakir Baykurt’s trilogy called “Blast Furnaces”, “Big Rhein”, ““Half Bread”, the embodiment of the lives of the Turks who went to Germany from Turkey which underwent the process of a painful immigration and transformation was depicted. In this work, the condition of Turks in the German society as well as social and cultural differences will be studied.
