Summary/Abstract: This paper aims at identifying and analyzing the parameters of identity, as they emerge from a novel by Laila Lalami, published by Penguin Books in 2009 and titled Secret Son. In the postcolonial paradigm, the complex taxonomies of characters yield myriad facets that previous paradigms had eschewed or indeed obscured. In the post-Said-ean and Bhabha-ean vein, all things taxonomic can arguably be revisited. The analytical framework I am using in this analytical endeavor is that of the 'social actors' (van Leeuwen 1996).
