Summary/Abstract: The games of the Diablo series, which have enjoyed cult status for more than two decades, clearly draw inspiration from religion, especially Christianity. The religious creation of the world can be observed on various levels: visual, storyline and language. On the visual level, the games are inspired by church architecture, as well as depictions of angels and demons as well as heaven and hell. At the story level, the games build their mythology by alluding to the Manichean eternal conflict between good and evil. On the linguistic level, on the other hand, the games refer to religion using symbols, metaphors and religious terms. An analysis of these phenomena allows to conclude that religious motifs constituting the axis of the entire Diablo universe have largely contributed to the popularity of the series.
