Summary/Abstract: This paper presents the REDIL algorithm ("Reduced Energy Dissipation In LWSN") developed to optimize energy consumption in linear wireless sensor networks (LWSN) used in the physical layer of smart street parking systems in the real environment of downtown Sarajevo. The algorithm uses relay nodes with autonomous power supply (battery power) to transmit data to the sink, aiming to evenly distribute the load and energy consumption among the nodes, thereby preventing the excessive depletion of individual nodes and extending the network's lifespan. By using a linear programming method, the algorithm selects optimal paths in each routing round based on criteria such as the remaining energy of the node, the distance to the sink, and the distribution of relay nodes along the path to the sink. To test this algorithm, a real urban environment in the city of Sarajevo was chosen. The central part of the city, known for its infrastructure challenges, provides an ideal location for simulating the performance of the REDIL algorithm in a real network setting. Using a model that simulates the topology of street parking and the arrangement of sensor nodes, the algorithm's testing allows for the assessment of its capabilities in optimizing energy consumption and prolonging the network's lifetime, contributing to greater reliability and efficiency in managing smart parking systems.
