Summary/Abstract: This paper posits that the sustainability of a multilingual scientific community is inherently tied to the presence of multilingual education at the primary and secondary level of education. Drawing on empirical studies, it investigates both the potential benefits, and the challenges associated with implementing multilingual policies within Croatia’s educational and academic systems. The discussion is framed within the broader context of Croatia’s historical experience as a multilingual country and the socio-political decisions shaping its language policies. These factors will play a decisive role in determining whether Croatia embraces a multilingual educational and academic framework or converges towards an English-only paradigm.
