Summary/Abstract: The study presents the history of Hungarian literature in the Middle Ages. The author demonstrates that the oral culture before Christianity cannot be reconstructed with literary methods. The oral literature existing in the pagan era belongs mainly to the field of religious history, ethnography, folk psychology, linguistic history and historiography. Based on the above considerations, the study presents the history of Hungarian literature with texts written in Latin and Hungarian. The history of Hungarian literary phenomena is presented in a Romanian-Hungarian transcultural context. Thus, the history of Hungarian literature is not considered a history that unfolds in a vacuum, separate from the evolution of Romanian literature. The author presents the history of Hungarian literature primarily on the basis of literary genres, practiced with predilection in the Middle Ages by Hungarian authors: legends, visions, parables, historiographic literature.
