Summary/Abstract: The article here discusses those teachings of Abu Hasan Al- -Ash’ary that can be categorised as metaphysical in their character. These theological and philosophical opinions are essential in any interpretation of his thought in Islam. Thus, Ash’ari’s conception of the relation between God’s essence and His attributes, about the uncreated nature of the Word of God-Qur’an, about the way in which God creates and sustains the World, about the degree to which man is answerable for his deeds, and so on. All these concepts inspired many later theologians who labelled their teaching as Ash’arism. This teaching will consequently become the most dominant teaching in a large part of the Islamic world.
