Sanitation and hygiene problems in interwar Alba Iulia

Summary/Abstract: The chief hygienist, the coordinator of the Sanitary Service, had the obligation to periodically ascertain the state of hygiene of the city and to take measures, when necessary. During the inspections, he verified whether the legal provisions for the constructions of public and private buildings were respected, whether the authorizations, licenses were in order, all deviations, abuses, illegalities, being recorded in minutes and sanctioned with the support of local authorities (administrative and police), according to laws in force. In the Hygiene and Sanitation Commission of the city (municipality) and in the Hygiene Council of Alba County he presented the sanitary problems of the city and submitted proposals for solutions. The study presents the sanitation and hygiene problems that existed in interwar Alba Iulia, as well as the solutions decided at the local level
