Summary/Abstract: ASTRA is responsible for the construction in Alba Iulia of the Obelisk dedicated to the martyrs Horea, Cloșca and Crișan, inaugurated on October 14, 1937. The idea of creating the monument arose in the context of preparations for the anniversary of a decade of Romanian administration. The National Liberal Party requested ASTRA to organize the Celebrations, promising financial and logistical support. In the ambitious program that the Central Committee of ASTRA designed, the creation of a monument dedicated to the martyrs Horia, Cloșca and Crișan in Alba Iulia was one of the 4 major objectives established. The lack of money, given the difficulties the country was going through after the economic crisis, as well as the reduced support of the central authorities delayed the construction of the monument. In the fundraising campaigns, the efforts of the teachers, students and parents who contributed modest amounts, but in very large numbers, were admirable. Work of collaboration between the architect Octavian Mihălțan and the sculptor Iosif Fekete. An expression of the Art Deco style, the obelisk was placed at the edge of the terrace in front of the Charles VI Gate.
