Main factors explaining the gap between theory and practice in the field of gender equality

Summary/Abstract: Gender equality is a fundamental right and a common value shared by all democratic societies. Despite this unanimous recognition at a theoretical level, despite the progress obtained in the last few decades, gender equality remains more a desideratum than a reality. This study analyses the reasons for perpetuating the inequality in spite of the political will and action, advances a possible explanation for the gap between theory and practice, and argues in favor of a different approach that could change gender equality regulations and policies through a better understanding of the way in which our gendered society is created.
