Summary/Abstract: During its sixty-year-long history, Polish logopaedics has become transdisciplinary; it encompasses a separate area of knowledge, has a distinct object of study, uses its own terminology and concepts, has developed standards of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as well as seeking to become an independent discipline. At the same time, speech therapists aspire to have their profession regulated in the legal system. In Polish logopaedics, the second half of the 20th century was the time of building academic structures and developing programmes for training speech therapists, the period of integration of the professional community, and first of all, the period of developing a distinct research methodology. It is a feature of all scholarly studies that they see some sphere of reality from the perspective of the adopted methodology, documentedby theoretical and/or empirical evidence. The article presents limitations resulting from the current research into speech disorders and outlines research possibilities offered by the interaction theory embraced as the research paradigm of the 21st century logopaedics.
