Summary/Abstract: Genre experiments in the modern musical art are characterized by a huge variety, reflecting the individual author’sapproach to the interpretation of the genre means. One of the manifestations of the “mixed” genre in the music of the 20th andearly 21st centuries is “genre diffusion”, combining the features of several genres. Genre diffusions have become widespread inMoldovan music, including the chamber instrumental creation of B. Dubosarschi. One of these works is the ”Sonata-Ballad” for viola and piano, in which the classical sonata cycle, as a series of complete sections and parts connected by a commonidea, simultaneously obeys the laws of a Romanticism ballad, in which the epic narrative is combined with the dramatic plotdevelopment.
