Summary/Abstract: On May 18, 2022, on the occasion of the International Museum Day, the National Museum of History of Moldova opened of a temporary thematic exhibition “The Magic of the Lights of the Past”, which was organized by the Department of History and Museology. The exhibition message was conveyed through the about seventy authentic pieces with scientific, historical, memorial and aesthetic value, which constituted the basis of the exhibition. The chronological framework of the collection of lighting fixtures, which was formed as a result of the transfers, purchases and donations, covers the period from the 5th-4th centuries BC to the 1990s; Most of the exhibits have undergone restoration and museum conservation. The exhibition helped the visitors to move to the past of this “miracle”, turning over the pages of the history of the development of indoor and street artificial lighting, reflected in many exhibits representing sources of light: fire, oil lamp, candle, icon-lamp, various gas and electric table lamps, candelabras, lanterns, and so on. A special place in the exposition was occupied by memorial objects, which, in addition to historical, scientific and artistic significance, are of particular value. The exhibition was complemented by thematic photographs and reconstructions representing artificial interior and street lighting.
