Summary/Abstract: This paper introduces the main sequences of the activity of the Bishop Policarp Morușca during the four years (1935-1939) when he served as the first missionary of the Romanian Orthodox Church in America. Mainly based on the archives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania, but not only, it is structured on two distinct, intertwined levels: the personality of His Grace Policarp, and the life of the Romanian immigrants in the United States in the fourth decade of the Twentieth century. Each of the four years of the episcopal ministry in America, according to the words of the prelate, is as follows: 1935 – year of orientation; 1936 – year of organization; 1937 – year of realization; 1938 – year of consolidation. Avoiding the futile details and routine controversies, we tried to concentrate on the moments defining the most prominent results of the ecclesiastic pastoral care of the Bishop in America. Among them: the foundation of „Vatra Românească” in Grass Lake – Michigan; founding of Solia (Herald) magazine, which continues to appear today; consecration of the first Romanian church in New York; meeting the US President, Franklin D. Roosevelt etc. The paper wants to be a tribute to the Bishop Morușca on the 140th anniversary of his birth and 65 years since his passing to the Lord.
