Summary/Abstract: Sacred art will continue to bridge tradition and innovation, maintaining its importance in the world's cultural and spiritual landscape. The future of sacred art depends on its ability to adapt and find new ways to express the sacred in contemporary society. The Sacred Dimension in Art, Its Historical Developments and Future Perspectives might be best suited to such a structure, as it covers both the past and the future of sacred art. Sacred art has played a central role in the history of civilizations, providing a visual and symbolic link between the divine and the human, and its dimension to the past is vast and complex. The dimension of the sacred art of the past can be analyzed from several perspectives: Sacred art was an essential tool of religious and spiritual expression in most ancient cultures. This had the role of facilitating contact between believers and divinity, to transmit religious teachings and to encourage contemplation. Frescoes in churches, Orthodox icons, stained glass windows in Gothic cathedrals or Hindu and Buddhist sculptures were created not only to impress visually, but also to induce a state of prayer and reverence. At a time when many people were illiterate, sacred art functioned as a "visual text" that educated the public. Frescoes, icons and sculptures in temples, mosques and churches told biblical, mythological or moral stories, helping to transmit religious traditions and dogmas. For example, in medieval Europe, scenes from the life of Jesus, depicted in paintings or sculptures, were used to educate people about the foundational events of Christianity. The dimension of sacred art for the past is therefore multifaceted, with profound religious, social, political and aesthetic influences. It shaped not only spiritual beliefs but also the structure of societies, becoming a vital component in the evolution of cultures and civilizations around the world.
