Summary/Abstract: Numbers in popular culture are more than simple mathematical units. In people's imaginations, they have a sacred meaning that permeates customs, beliefs and myths. The purpose of the present work is to investigate and analyze the sacred meaning of numbers in Bulgarian folklore with an emphasis on material from the village of Ternovka, Ukraine, in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Through a general overview of the symbolism of numbers, an examination of specific numbers and their symbolic meaning, and an analysis of examples from Bulgarian folk tales, legends and customs, the article seeks to reveal how numbers have permeated people's lives and rituals. in the village of Ternovka and what importance they attached to them.
