Summary/Abstract: The paper depicts the activities of German architect Otto Seibel in the PolishConstruction Department and compares his, now completely forgotten, vision of rebuild-ing and sanitizing the city with previous urban planning conceptions concerning Wrocław.Seibel’s project was most probably the first serious attempt to address this issue. He start-ed to outline wide-ranging plans of clearing communication routes, as well as erectingnew buildings and whole city districts already in May 1945. The author of this article aimsalso to present the factors which ultimately caused this vision to remain unrealised and thereasons for which a former direct Karl Hanke’s associate remained one of the key staffmembers of the Polish Construction Department for nearly a year and a half.
