The PRC’s contemporary economic development and security of supply chains in the context of Sino-American relations

Summary/Abstract: Since the late 1970s, the People’s Republic of China’s (PRC) rapideconomic development began. For many years, it was possible thanks to the se-curity of supply chains and cooperation with Western countries, with the USA atthe forefront. Meanwhile, the intensification of global competition between su-perpowers resulted in being cut off from technology, markets, and raw materials,which was also caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The aim of the study was todetermine why the development prospects of the PRC significantly deterioratedand what role economic policy played in this respect, which determined the waysupply chains were shaped. The study uses contextual analysis. Analyzes show that the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine have intensified disruptions in va-lue chains. Many enterprises started looking for safe and reliable suppliers and newfactory locations. The average annual economic growth rate of the Middle Kingdomhas decreased significantly.
