Summary/Abstract: The aim of the present work was to monitor the level of ß-2 microglobulin (MG) in urine in acute renal failure (ARF). The subject of the study was a 62-year-old woman who presented with symptoms of intoxication syndrome, leading to acute renal failure. The following were investigated: amount of diuresis, relative weight and ß-2 microglobulin (MG) in urine, transaminases (AST, ALAT), urea and creatinine in serum on the first and twentieth day, as well as after two, three and four months. After targeted treatment, the manifestations of multiorgan failure were controlled and acute renal failure was overcome. The ß-2 MG detected in the urine was initially 3.75 mg/L, but gradually, with the improvement of the acute renal failure, its level in the urine normalized to 0.05; 0,04 mg/L. Observational findings indicate that urinary ß-2 MG is an accessible and reliable laboratory criterion for tubular damage in acute renal failure.
